Task 3.3 Optimisation of a prototype thermoacoustic system with an adjoint approach
This task will consider the same prototype thermoacoustic system as task 3.2. We will express its acoustic energy in terms of the energy of the individual modes, using the governing equations derived in task 3.2. The key question here is: Can one channel the bulk of the acoustic energy into one particular mode, and what values need to be chosen for the design parameters and operating conditions to achieve this? We will use an approach based on adjoint eigenfunctions (Magri 2015) in order to solve this optimisation problem. The study is largely analytical and will yield results with quick calculations.
