Task 2.4 – Numerical study of turbulent swirl combustor
Supervisor: Prof. Wolfgang Polifke,
Host: Technische Universität München, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Germany.
Task 2.4 of the TANGO Network forms the theoretical counterpart of task 2.3 and takes a largely numerical approach. Large eddy simulation, as well as low-order models, will be employed to study the vortex/swirl dynamics in the turbulent swirl combustor of task 2.3. The focus will be on the convection of hydrodynamic structures and their interaction with the flame front. This task will benefit from insight gained in task 2.2. Experimental data from task 2.3 will validate the numerical predictions, which in turn, will guide the experimental programme of task 2.3 of the TANGO Network.
