Science Museum London
The Science Museum in London is part of the Science Museum Group, which is devoted to the history and contemporary practice of science, medicine, technology, industry and media. With over five million visitors each year and an unrivalled collection, it is the most significant group of museums of science and innovation worldwide. The Science Museum Group also includes the Museum of Science and Industry Manchester, the National Railway Museum York and Locomotion Shildon, and the National Science and Media Museum Bradford. The Science Museum Group vision is ‘for a society that celebrates science, technology and engineering and their impact on our lives now and in the future’. The Science Museum was founded in 1857 and gained independence in 1909. The Museum is world renowned for its historic collections, innovative hands-on exhibitions and extensive programme of learning activities. Every year, 450,000+ young people visit in school groups and a further 100,000 are reached through the Museum’s outreach activities. 45,000 people per year attend "Lates", the Museum's monthly evening for adults, centred on themes ranging from sex to climate change to mathematics.
